Privacy Policy
The short version. Darc has no account, no analytics, no ads, no tracking and no servers. The Safari extension restyles pages on your device and never sends page content or browsing history anywhere. If iCloud is on, your settings sync through your own iCloud account. Purchases are handled by Apple. We do not collect personal data.
This policy explains how the Darc app and its Safari extension for iPhone, iPad and Mac ("Darc", "the app") handle information, and the rights you have. It also covers this website, darcapp.com.
Who we are
Darc is developed and published by Darius Cirjan, who is the data controller for the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can reach us at iosallapps@icloud.com.
What we collect
Nothing. Darc does not ask you to create an account, does not include analytics, advertising or crash reporting services, and does not connect to any server run by us. We do not receive, store or process personal data about you through the app.
How the Safari extension works
To change how a website looks, the extension needs Safari's permission to access websites. When you allow it, Safari shows a warning that the extension can read and alter web pages. Darc uses that access only to do its job:
- It reads a page's colours and styles inside Safari, on your device, and changes them to apply a dark or light theme.
- To read a page's styles, it may load that page's own stylesheets or images again from the website that serves them. Those requests go to the website you are visiting, never to us.
- It does not send page content, form data, passwords or your browsing history anywhere. There is no Darc server to send them to.
- It keeps your settings and site rules (for example, which mode a site uses) on your device so it can apply them.
Data stored on your device
Darc stores your settings on your device: the global mode, site rules with the host names of the sites you set a rule for, fine-tuning values, dark hours, whether onboarding was completed, and whether Darc Forever is unlocked. The extension also keeps a small amount of status on your device, such as when it last themed a page, so the app can tell you whether the extension is running. This data stays on your device and is removed when you delete the app.
iCloud sync
If iCloud is turned on for your Apple Account, Darc syncs your settings and site rules between your devices using Apple's iCloud key-value storage. This data is stored in your own iCloud account under Apple's terms and privacy policy. We cannot access it. You can turn this off in your device's iCloud settings.
Purchases
Darc Forever is sold through the App Store. Payments are processed by Apple using StoreKit. We do not receive your name, payment details or Apple Account information. The app only learns from Apple whether the purchase is active on your account, so it can unlock the features.
Report issue and email
"Report issue" in the extension's menu does not send anything by itself. It opens a pre-filled email in your mail app, addressed to us, containing the site's host name (not the full address or anything from the page), the mode and engine Darc used, the Darc version and your platform. You can read and edit the email, and it is sent only if you choose to send it.
If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. We use it only to answer you and keep the conversation for as long as needed to help you, after which we delete it. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering support requests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Third parties
Apple provides the App Store, StoreKit, Safari and iCloud. When you use them, Apple's own privacy policy applies; these are services you use directly, not providers we share data with. Darc includes the open source Dark Reader engine, which runs inside the extension on your device and does not send data anywhere.
This website
darcapp.com is a static website. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking scripts and loads no third-party fonts or scripts. The hosting provider may record standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security and delivery.
Children
Darc collects no personal data from anyone, including children. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 or under the age of digital consent in their country. If a child has emailed us and a parent or guardian wants that email deleted, write to us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar laws you have the right to access, correct, delete or export personal data about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to a data protection authority. In Romania this is the Autoritatea Națională de Supraveghere a Prelucrării Datelor cu Caracter Personal (ANSPDCP). Because Darc does not collect personal data, there is usually nothing for us to provide, but if you have written to us we will help with any request about those emails. Contact iosallapps@icloud.com.
Changes to this policy
If Darc's handling of information changes, we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect. If a change is significant, we will also mention it in the app's release notes.
